Yamal Equals Incredible Fernandes Passing Stat

Following their victory over Atletico Madrid, Barcelona advanced to the Copa del Rey final, while Lamine Yamal set an incredible passing record with a deft assist.

The Catalan giants defeated Atletico 1-0 in the second leg of the semi-finals at the Metropolitano Stadium, securing a spot in the Copa del Rey final alongside Real Madrid and setting up another El Clasico in the process.

After an exciting 4–4 draw in the first leg, Ferran Torres’ goal in the 27th minute was sufficient to advance Hansi Flick’s team.

One of the outstanding players of the evening was Yamal, who finished the game with a spectacular assist that set up Torres. The 17-year-old equaled the outstanding passing figure of Bruno Fernandes with another direct goal involvement.

With 37 apiece, Spain international Yamal and Manchester United captain Fernandes are tied for most successful through balls, according to Opta. That is more than any other player in the top five leagues in Europe.

In terms of assists from open play, Yamal is only surpassed by Mohamed Salah of Liverpool. The Barca winger is only five assists behind the Egyptian, who is at the top of the table, thanks to his 22.

After a strong challenge from Atletico defender Clement Lenglet, in which the Frenchman caught the teenager with his studs, Yamal departed the field with a bloodied ankle after playing 87 minutes before being replaced by Gerard Martin in the victory over Atletico.

However, Barca and their head coach Hansi Flick are relieved that no long-term injuries seem to have been sustained.
