Real Madrid have revealed their squad for the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla this week, with several stars missing out.
Zinedine Zidane’s side will face last season’s Europa League winners in Trondheim on Tuesday, but will be without star forward and record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 31-year-old misses out – unsurprisingly – after picking up and injury in the Euro 2016 final last month, while he is yet to even return to training.
Wales star Gareth Bale also misses out having only just recently returned from his holiday and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos is also omitted.
Among the more notable talking points is that Zidane has picked his son, Luca, as third goalkeeper following the injury to Keylor Navas.
Luca Zidane, 18, is unlikely to feature in the game against Sevilla, but his inclusion is still interesting ahead of what could be a bright future for the goalkeeper. He joined Real’s youth academy in 2004, two years before his father retired from playing for Madrid, and was given his first senior appearance for the club at the end of July against PSG in a 3-1 friendly defeat.
There is some more good news with the inclusion of Karim Benzema, who was a minor doubt heading into the game with an injury.
Meanwhile, Mariano Diaz and Marcos Llorente are both included, despite speculation they would be involved in the deal for Moussa Sissoko to come to Spain this summer.
