While Zinchenko has been fighting for Arsenal to help them win the Premier League, his fellow Ukrainians are engaged in a far more serious, perilous, and desperate struggle to defend their country.
Sometimes, the broader problems the world faces can occasionally be put to the back of our consciousness because it is so simple to become engrossed in the world of football.
Meanwhile, Zinchenko has indeed been vocal about the war that erupted in February 2022 after Russia invaded.
Soon after, Arsenal moved to acquire the left-back from Manchester City. Since then, the player has quickly cemented his place in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
However, if the 25-year-old had acted according to his initial instincts, perhaps things might have turned out quite differently.
Writing jointly with football great Andriy Shevchenko on their brand-new GoFundMe page seeking to generate money to aid in rebuilding and providing essentials to those affected, Zinchenko revealed:
“You can’t stay back while your country is attacked,” Zinchenko wrote. “People in Ukraine are fighting for their lives.
“I considered going myself to help at the front as a soldier. But I can use my platform to fight the war in a different way by helping with donations. And just keeping attention on the situation in Ukraine.
“I want to inspire people to help Ukraine. Raise awareness and do everything I can to help my country win this war.”
