Alaba: I miss Guardiola, I am very grateful to him

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has admitted he misses Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard moved to Manchester City. Furthermore, the Austrian also confirmed Guardiola never asked him to join Man City.

The 24-year-old Austria international, who has registered three assists this season, spent three years under Guardiola at the Bundesliga side before the former Barcelona boss moved to City.

Alaba says he misses Guardiola at Bayern because of the support he has given him to helping him to gain more experience.

“Yes I sure do. I am very grateful to him. He supported me over the last couple of years so I could gain important professional experiences. I am very thankful to him for that,” Alaba told Yahoo.

Alaba has won five Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern and the versatile star insists he is happy with the Bundesliga giants and is not considering a move to the Premier League anytime soon with his contract running until 2021.

“I don’t think about that at all. My contract with Munich won’t run out until 2021 and I like it here. I partly grew up in Munich and I am so grateful that I am part of this team.”

When asked about whether Guardiola ever asked him to move to Manchester City, Alaba simply said: “No”.

Alaba believes his former manager is getting on well at City, despite them not having won their last five games “From what I hear things are going great.”

“But he does his thing. And so far, he has been very successful with that, including a very good season kick-off.”

Alaba has won 45% of his duels and has created 14 chances this season, which is only four chances fewer than he managed in his 30 appearances last term.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are unbeaten this season after eight games, leaving them top of the table two points ahead of newly-promoted RB Leipzig.
