Ancelotti reveals why he didn’t take Man United job after talks with Ferguson

Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he would have been interested in taking over at Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

The Italian is regarded as one of the best tacticians in European football after enjoying great success wherever he’s been and he led Los Blancos to their historic 10th Champions League title in the season after Ferguson had left United (2013/14).

Ancelotti was asked by FourFourTwo if he had the chance to join Man United and the Italian said: “After he [Sir Alex Ferguson] retired in 2013 he spoke to me, but I had already given my word to go to Real Madrid.

“Manchester United were too late. But otherwise I would have been interested in going to Old Trafford.”

United turned to David Moyes instead and following a poor eight months he was sacked. Louis van Gaal replaced him and during the Dutchman’s two years at the club, he achieved Champions League qualification once and also brought about the first piece of silverware in the post-Ferguson era with victory in the FA Cup final back in May.

However, that wasn’t enough to keep him at Old Trafford as he was sacked 48 hours later and eventually replaced Jose Mourinho and he’s now been tasked with restoring the club back to the pinnacle of English football.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti is back in management after a year away from the game and has taken charge of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
