Arsenal to offer Iwobi new deal with massive 1,000 per-cent pay-rise

Alex Iwobi is set to be offered a new contract by Arsenal that could see his current wages increased by over ten-fold, after having impressed in recent games.

Iwobi, 19, has enjoyed a breakthrough season and scored his first Premier League goal on Saturday when the Gunners beat Everton 2-0, with Iwobi having also featured against Barcelona in the Champions League three days previously.

The Nigeria international signed a new deal earlier this season, but Iwobi is currently being paid less than £1,000 a week, with the club set to offer him fresh terms that will see his wages rise to more than £10,000 a week, according to the London Evening Standard.

Iwobi, who can operate effectively as a central midfielder or winger, has made 14 first-team appearances this season and Arsene Wenger is eager for him to be appropriately paid for his involvement at the top level.

Iwobi’s rise has been rather unexpected, with the prospect having not really stood out at youth level until last season. This campaign, however, he has appeared unfazed in the first-team and against Everton he combined well with forward Danny Welbeck.

Iwobi is currently on international duty with Nigeria, and will be hopeful of featuring in the two upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt, where he could face his Arsenal teammate Mohamed Elneny.

Arsenal’s first game after the international break is at home to Watford in the Premier League.
