Balotelli equals Ligue 1 goalscoring record that has stood for 11 years

Nice striker Mario Balotelli continued his fantastic form in Ligue 1 on Sunday by equalling another record.

Balotelli has often been tipped as one of Europe’s brightest young forwards, but the Italian striker has been let down by his temperament and laid-back approach, both on and off the pitch.

After two years of disappointment with both Liverpool and Milan, Balotelli joined Ligue 1 side Nice in the summer on a permanent deal from the former.

And he has since hit the ground running, recently becoming the first player to score four goals in his first two Ligue 1 games over the last 25 seasons, when he netted twice in a 4-0 thrashing of Monaco.

And he has not stopped there after grabbing the winner on Sunday against Lorient and in turn becoming the first player to score in his first three Ligue 1 appearances since John Carew for Lyon in 2005.

Balotelli’s night ended in sour circumstances when he was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 2-1 win, but the 26-year-old will still be delighted with his impact overall.
