Barcelona overtake Monaco as topscorers in Europe’s top five leagues

Barcelona‘s 3-0 win against Sevilla on Wednesday night pushed them ahead of Monaco as the most prolific team in Europe’s top five divisions.

Luis Suarez’s acrobatic opener in the 25th minute took the Catalan giants to 86 league goals for the current campaign, at the time just one below Monaco on 87.

But Lionel Messi struck twice within eight minutes to give Barcelona a three-goal lead and the outright lead as the top goalscorers in Europe.

Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Real Madrid trail in third place as only one of three teams to break the 70-goal mark.

Liverpool are the only Premier League representatives in the top six, level with Serie A contenders Roma.

Neither the Premier League leaders Chelsea or Serie A front-runners Juventus feature on the list, despite having their respective title races all but sewn up.
