Casillas breaks Champions League record following Porto’s late win over Club Brugge

Porto‘s late 2-1 victory against Club Brugge means that Iker Casillas has now won 92 Champions League contests, surpassing the previous record set by Xavi to become the player with the most wins ever in the competition.

Porto had found themselves a goal behind against Brugge but Miguel Layun had drawn the Portuguese side level in the second half.

With the game looking to be closing out to a draw Porto got themselves a penalty, which striker Andre Silva stepped up to convert, giving the away side the victory.

The win puts Porto on four points in Group G, five points off of leaders Leicester City, but the result will have a more individual effect for Casillas who has now achieved the record amount of Champions League wins for any one player.

The Spaniard played the majority of those matches for Real Madrid but the 35 -year-old has finally beaten Xavi’s record, having equalled it last season.
