Chicharito reveals Ferguson still sends him texts messages

Javier Hernandez has revealed he still speaks to Sir Alex Ferguson before big matches.

The Mexican striker was brought to Old Trafford by Ferguson in 2010 for an undisclosed fee.

But despite an impressive goals per minute record, the diminutive striker was sold to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge at Old Trafford after a 27-year reign also turned out to be the last full season Hernandez played for the club.

Despite his departure from being deemed to be surplass to requirements at Old Trafford last year, Hernandez has admitted he still enjoys a close relationship with his former manager.

“For me, he is the best,” Hernandez said in an interview on BBC’s Football Focus programme.

“He gave me the chance to make my dream come true first of all in Europe and then for the biggest club in football history.

“For me Sir Alex Ferguson is still a very important person in my life.”

Asked whether he still keeps in contact with his former mentor, the man they call Chicarito revealed the pair still enjoyed a close relationship.

“Yeah even now when we played in the Champions League before the Atletico Madrid game we texted each other.

“I saw him two games ago and we still have lots of contact.

“When I was going to Real Madrid on loan I went to his house in person and we spoke.

“We keep in contact as well as we can because he has lots of other things to do now he has retired.

The 27-year-old has thrived in the Bundesliga since completing a permanent move to Leverkusen, scoring 14 goals in 18 appearances this season.

Despite admitting his disappointment at having to leave, he maintains he holds no grudges with Louis van Gaal for selling him.

“Of course it is disappointing when somebody doesn’t give you their 100% confidence, but I said thank you to him at the time becuase he was very honest.”

Javier Hernandez could end up meeting his former club in the latter stages of the Europa League, with Leverkusen meeting Sporting Lisbon next week.

Uefa have agreed to push back the kick-off time of Manchester United’s last 16 clash with Liverpool after their fears were raised that the early start time would cause travel chaos.
