Hazard’s brother says he is only behind Messi and Ronaldo now

Eden Hazard has been tipped to become the best player in the world by his younger brother Thorgan, although the Borussia Monchengladbach star thinks his sibling may have to wait until Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi retire to take the accolade.

Eden has enjoyed a superb campaign for Premier League leaders Chelsea, with the winger having scored 10 goals and created three others to help Antonio Conte’s side go nine points clear of nearest rivals Tottenham.

Some of those goals have been stunning, including the Belgium international’s solo strike against Arsenal at the weekend which saw him win the ball in midfield, race past three Gunners players before sending a low effort into the back of the net.

Thorgan, who himself is enjoying a good campaign in Germany, believes his older brother has what it takes to one day be thought of as the best player in the world though he may have to wait a few more years to achieve his dream.

Speaking to Goal, Thorgan said of his brother: “Yes, everybody thinks Eden has the potential to become the world’s best player.

“But we have at the moment two [exceptional] players in Ronaldo and Messi. They are very strong so maybe Eden will have to wait a little bit until they stop or when they are really old!

“He could become the best – for me, he is already one of the best. I want to see him go third on the [Ballon d’Or] list one day soon and I think he’ll do it. I think a lot of people when they saw Eden playing, they go ‘wow what a player!’

“He’s strong, but with the ball he is fast and has all the abilities of a great player. When I saw the game against Everton, I loved seeing him play like that – sometimes he is fantastic and that is the life for him.”
