Klopp backs Oxlade-Chamberlain to succeed at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp fielded difficult questions about the state of his team as they prepare for Saturday’s Premier League tie with Leicester.

The Anfield club are currently experiencing a difficult vein of form, they remain without a win in September and have received huge criticism for their defensive fragility.

New signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also struggled since making his deadline day switch from Arsenal but Klopp is not getting carried away with any of it.

Talking about Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was mocked on social media for his performance in the Carabao Cup, Klopp gave the new man his full backing.

‘That is the world of football. I can imagine. Ox had a few really good situations and a few unlucky situations. He has a little problem with a calf.

‘It’s not an injury but we have to learn to manage it. He didn’t make the best game of football in his life but that is the world of football. I am not in doubt about him.’

Having been held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley last week, the Reds crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday against Leicester – whom they face again in the Premier League this weekend.

But Klopp claims there is no major crisis at the club following their midweek loss.

‘We really play well. We don’t score often enough but that is a minor problem. You have to create these chances and a lot of things are working well.

‘It was too easy for them to make an impact on the game with one situation. We all can expect that we should be better in certain situations.’

‘We work on it. We need to be still more concentrated in these situations and be more clinical. That is the situation. It is like it is. We carry on.’
