Kolo Toure becomes the first African player to reach 300 Premier League appearances

Kolo Toure became the first African player to reach 300 Premier League appearances in Liverpool‘s 3-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The Ivorian centre-back has been made to wait to reach the landmark, but played the full 90 minutes at Anfield in his ninth appearance for the Reds this season.

Toure has been with Liverpool since 2013, but made the majority of his appearances for Arsenal from 2002 to 2009, before joining City. The 34-year-old was part of the famous ‘Invincibles’ of 2004, helping Arsenal win the Premier League title without losing a single game all season.

As well as the league title, he picked up the FA Cup twice and a Champions League runners-up medal in 2006 with Arsene Wenger’s side.

After seven successful years with the Gunners, he moved to City, where he won another title in 2012. Although he hasn’t been as important at City or Liverpool as he was at Arsenal, Toure still deserves his place in the Premier League record book.

He’s been a stalwart of the league, reaching at least double figures for appearances in every season since 2002.

Now he’s passed the landmark, Toure will be hoping to help Jurgen Klopp’s side finish the season strongly after the
disappointment of losing the Capital One Cup final on penalties.

The Reds are currently eighth in the Premier League after their 3-0 win over his former club, while they’ve also reached the last 16 of the Europa League.

Liverpool face Crystal Palace next before a derby against Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side in Europe.
