Lewandowski nets a hat-trick as Bayern cruise to victory in Bundesliga opener

Bayern Munich kicked off the new Bundesliga season with an emphatic 6-0 win over Werder Bremen on Friday night at the Allianz Arena, with Robert Lewandowski scoring a hat-trick.

The German giants are under new management this season as former AC Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has succeeded Pep Guardiola in the hot seat.

He named a strong starting XI for the visit of Bremen, with Mats Hummels making his debut in the league after joining from league rivals Borussia Dortmund earlier in the summer.

It didn’t take long for the deadlock to be broken as Xabi Alonso found the net with a wonderful dipping volley from outside the area to exceed his goal return from the duration of last season.

Lewandowski was on target a few minutes later as he found the back of the net from an acute angle.

The Poland international had his second of the night barely a minute into the second half, before captain Philipp Lahm made it 4-0 with a crisp finish to round off a slick passing move.

Franck Ribery and another from Lewandowski completed the rout as Bayern sent out a clear warning to the rest of the division.
