Luis Enrique hints Barcelona could play three at the back against Man City

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has hinted that he could switch to three at the back for Wednesday night’s Champions League against Manchester City.

Matchday three of European football’s elite competition will mark the return of Pep Guardiola to his old stomping ground at the Camp Nou and he will be bringing a considerable attacking threat as his side have scored seven goals in their two Group C fixtures so far.

Furthermore, the Spaniard’s side are the joint-top scorers in the Premier League at the moment (19) and their goal power has left Enrique considering his options as to how Barca will set up defensively against the Citizens.

“[Jeremy] Mathieu is the fastest we have and [Javier] Mascherano is also very fast, we could go with three centre-halves against City but I am not going to say how we are going to play against City or anyone else for that matter,” he told Marca.

In addition, the Barca boss refused to be drawn on the expected media circus that will come with Guardiola’s return to his former club.

“I have not spoken to [Guardiola]

“City will be a very attractive rival but they are in a period of continuous progression as is their coach.”

The Catalan giants have a 100% record in the Champions League so far having made easy work of Celtic in their opening game last month before coming from behind to beat Borussia Monchengladbach away from home three weeks ago.

They will go into this week’s clash with City on the back of a comfortable 4 -0 win over Deportivo with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi both on the scoresheet.
