Luis Suarez’s nine-match international ban set to finish in March – 636 DAYS after it started

Luis Suarez will be eligible to return from the international wilderness when Uruguay face Brazil next month.

The striker hasn’t played for his country since 24 June 2014, when he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during a group match at the World Cup in Brazil.

Suarez was issued with a nine-match competitive international ban as punishment two days later, which will have spanned 636 DAYS (21 months) by the time he is eligible to play again in March.

FIFA has confirmed Uruguay’s World Cup qualifier with Brazil in Recife will take place on Friday 25 March.

Uruguay are expected to welcome Suarez, who has scored 31 goals for Barcelona this season, back into the team for the clash with Dunga’s side.

Uruguay have started qualification for the 2018 World Cup in good form, winning three of their opening four matches.

They sit second in the group, three points behind Ecuador, who have won all four of their games.
