Man United Reportedly Willing to Pay ‘Whatever it Takes’ for Griezmann

Manchester United are reportedly willing to pay ‘whatever it takes’ to secure the services of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann after the Frenchman put Bayern Munich to the sword in their Champions League semi-final clash.

A report from El Confidencial focusing on Griezmann’s performance and Atletico’s progression to European football’s showpiece event in Milan, notes that United are ready to cough up the big bucks to prise him away.

The 25-year-old, who faced David Moyes’ United while he was still a Real Sociedad player, is believed to have an €80m release clause. That’s approximately £63m and only marginally more than the club record fee Old Trafford chiefs splurged on Angel Di Maria in 2014.

United are thought to have been interested in Griezmann for some time, although would face stiff competition should they press ahead with a formal approach.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have also been linked with the player, although the rumours regarding a switch to Stamford Bridge have slowed considerably since Jose Mourinho left the club – the pair are both represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Whether he would actually want to leave a very good thing behind at Atletico at this moment in time also remains to be seen.

Griezmann’s away goal in the Allianz Arena was his 31st in all competitions this season. He’s scored more in European games than Lionel Messi in 2015/16, while he’s scored more times than any non-Barcelona or Real Madrid player in La Liga.
