Mkhitaryan breaks silence over Manchester United absence

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has broken his silence on his absence from Manchester United’s squad by revealing that he is still working towards regaining full fitness.

The 27-year-old joined United in a £26.3 million deal from Borussia Dortmund in the summer but has made only four Premier League appearances so far this season.

Mkhitaryan last featured for United in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on September 10 and was brought off at half-time by Jose Mourinho after his poor display.

The Armenia international has been sidelined with a thigh problem since then, although Mourinho hinted that the midfielder was close to being fully fit after Saturday’s victory over Leicester City.

‘I wouldn’t say injured but I would say not 100 per cent,’ said the United boss.

‘When they are not 100 per cent I always think this kind of difficult moment where you feel you have to win the match I prefer always to go with players who are 100 per cent ready physically and the mental point of view.’

And now, Mkhitaryan has revealed via Twitter that he has returned to training ahead of his return: ‘Really happy to have started training with team and I am on my way to getting fully fit!
