Morgan: Leicester City have ‘done the impossible again’

Leicester City ‘achieved the impossible again’ by pulling off a stunning victory over Sevilla to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Goals from Wes Morgan and Marc Albrighton saw Leicester overturn a first-leg defeat, as Kasper Schmeichel’s late penalty save sealed a thrilling 3-2 aggregate victory. Sevilla had Samir Nasri sent off for a second booking for pushing his head into Jamie Vardy’s.

‘We will take on whoever comes, we are just going to enjoy this fantastic night,’ said Morgan. ‘We still have to concentrate on the Premier League.’

Leicester join Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund in Friday’s draw.

Craig Shakespeare, who will join Harry Redknapp as only the second English manager to lead a side into the Champions League quarter-finals, maintained his 100 per cent record since taking over from Claudio Ranieri.

Morgan said: ‘It is incredible, I can’t believe it. We didn’t expect to get this far, it must be one of the greatest nights. We have proved everyone wrong and done the impossible again.’

Morgan converted from Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick in the 27th minute, and Albrighton added a composed second nine minutes after the break. Schmeichel conceded an 80th-minute penalty but saved Steven Nzonzi’s attempt, his second spot-kick stop of the tie.

Shakespeare praised his players — and paid tribute to Ranieri.

‘The idea was to make it as uncomfortable as we could for Sevilla in the first 15 minutes and play on the front foot,’ he said.

‘Wes getting the first one put us in the driving seat. I think we drove forward from there.

‘But the performance in the first leg, when Claudio was in charge, gave us the springboard.’
