Mourinho reveals how Mkhitaryan won back his Manchester United place

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s dedication and commitment enabled him to win back his place at Manchester United.

The £26 million summer signing from Borussia Dortmund had initially struggled to adjust to life at Old Trafford, and didn’t feature for nearly two months after he was hauled off at half-time in the defeat to Manchester City in September.

But since his return to the side, Mkhitaryan has been Mourinho’s standout star, with the midfielder scoring in his last two games against Zorya and Tottenham.

And Mourinho has praised the 27-year-old’s commitment during his tough start at the club.

‘I had players with a similar process of adaptation, we bought him, it was not a player who was chosen by other people,’ said Mourinho.

‘We bought him because I asked the club to do it, I like the player, I analysed the player, it’s be more frustrating for me if everything went wronghe needed a period of adaptation at every level.

‘And he was very professional, he didn’t find excuses, another player might blame the manager, the pitch, the weather, like many other players do.

‘He was quiet, closed his mouth, waiting his opportunity and he’s playing so good now.

‘Hopefully it’s not a few matches out that’s going to stop his evolution.’
