Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino saw nothing contentious in his team’s two penalties and believes they were unfortunate not to come away with all three points against Liverpool at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah’s double had looked to have sealed the three points for the hosts before Harry Kane equalised with a penalty five minutes into injury time.
It was his second attempt from the spot having seen one saved 10 minutes earlier and Liverpool were less than impressed by the referee’s decision to award both.
Kane seemed to be offside for the first when he was brought down by goalkeeper Loris Karius whilst the ‘foul’ by Virgil van Dijk on Erik Lamela for the second looked soft.
Pochettino told the BBC’s Match of the Day: ‘It was an amazing game to watch. I was calm, because I think the team plays so well. The feeling is we dropped two points. We were much, much, much better than Liverpool.
‘I think we were much better after 90 minutes and deserved to win but that is football. The most important thing is the character was amazing.
‘We are professional in our football. After our mistake we conceded the first goal but I think if we analyse the game Tottenham were much better.
‘Both were a penalty and nothing to say,’ he said in reference to the two spot-kicks. ‘It is not controversial – it is nothing. Sometimes people complain about the referee, but when they are right it is good to tell everyone.’
