Ramsey reveals why he joined Arsenal over Manchester United

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has revealed that he joined the Gunners rather than Manchester United because Arsene Wenger made him feel more wanted.

The north London club face rivals United this weekend in what is likely to be a fiercely-contested tie.

And Ramsey admitted he could have joined the Red Devils but chose Arsenal instead because of the hard work put in by Wenger.

“I went up there to see the facilities and I went to see Arsene Wenger,” the Gunners’ No.8 told Sky Sports.

“He did a lot to try and get me to this club. As a 17-year-old, flying out on a private jet to his hotel [in Switzerland for Euro 2008] was surreal but I think I made the right decision.

“I just felt a bit more wanted by Arsenal and by the boss.”

On his return from a horrific injury in 2011, Ramsey said of his goal in a 1-0 win over United: “To put in the performance that I did and the team did, it was just a really happy moment for me. That was the game where I felt, ‘I’m back!’”

Ramsey has not enjoyed an overly successful season on a personal level so far, managing just three appearances in the league after sustaining an injury during the Gunners’ opening day loss to Liverpool.

The Welsh star has also been overtaken by Granit Xhaka in the pecking order for a starting berth in Wenger’s side.

However, he played a vital role in his nation’s run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, making four assists and scoring one goal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have made a storming start to the season, sitting in fourth spot after 11 matches, having scored 24 goals and registering wins against the likes of Chelsea and Southampton.
