Roma turn down Chelsea’s initial £23m bid for Nainggolan

Chelsea have had a speculative offer of £23m rejected by Roma, according to the Guardian, with their initial bid falling short of the £32m price tag that Roma value the midfielder at.

Roma’s president, James Pollata, is desperate to keep the Belgian and his midfield partner Miralem Pjanic, who is also in demand. After Roma’s 3-0 win over Chievo, Pallotta told Gazetto dello Sport: “I have already said that we will not sell Pjanic and Nainggolan. I would like to see them playing for Roma.”

Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is also reportedly looking at bringing Roma defender Kostas Manolas to Stamford Bridge. It’s likely that Chelsea will amend their offer for Nainggolan and look to continue lengthy negotiations with the Italian giants and the Belgian.

The midfielder is a key player for Roma and the stats below highlight his importance to the team. Chelsea have the financial means to bring the player to the Premier League, and will probably consider the £32m figure.

Earlier this month, Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny told FourFourTwo that: “[Nainggolan is] a fantastic fit for English Football. He’s very strong, physical and tough. He’s not afraid of anyone and will fight for 90 minutes every game. Combine that with very technical skills and you have a complete player.”

The goalkeeper went further and stated, “If I was Chelsea manager, I’d buy him in a heartbeat. But I hope it’s not the case and that he stays with us.
