Sheyi Ojo back in Liverpool training after recovering from fracture in his back

Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo has returned to light training, as he steps up his return from a broken back.

The 19-year-old winger was sidelined during pre-season, when a stress fracture in his lower back was revealed, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Ojo, who is eligible to play for both Nigeria and England, complained of discomfort immediately after the tour of the US, in which he had impressed for the Reds, and was originally expected to be absent for around a month.

However, his hopes of a return in September were dashed and he has only recently been given the all-clear to step up his rehabilitation.

“Back running. The return is near,” Ojo posted on Instagram.

Ojo, who joined the Reds’ Academy from MK Dons in 2011, will be gunning to get his Liverpool career back on track after a breakthrough campaign in 2015 -16.

Recalled from a loan spell at Wolves by Jurgen Klopp last January, the pacey wideman enhanced his reputation as he made 11 first-team appearances for the Reds.

In the summer he shone for England Under-19s as he helped them reach the semi-finals of the European Championship in Germany.

He didn’t have a proper break and instead headed straight for California to link up with Klopp’s squad on tour and impressed in the friendly matches before back pain forced him to seek medical help.
