Sinclair: Guardiola has the edge over Mourinho

Former Manchester City midfielder Trevor Sinclair has said that he feels that the club’s new manager Pep Guardiola has the slight edge over Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho.

Guardiola and Mourinho will lock horns domestically for the second times in their career, as they face off in Manchester next season.

The pair previously managed Barcelona and Real Madrid, where they had fierce battles on the touchline as their teams locked horns regularly.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sinclair said that he felt that Guardiola would be the top of the list at United had he been available and City did well to get in ahead of their rivals.

He also said that he thinks that getting Mourinho in was a reaction from United to City signing Guardiola.

“If you got a bit of honesty from people and they had their choice of manager, I think Pep would have been top of the list.

“They’ve jumped the gun on Manchester United to get the main man there, and they’ve reacted by getting Jose and we’ll see how that pans out but all eyes are going to be on Pep.

“I just feel there are going to be good players brought in and good players developed and I feel City will be the team to beat next season. The battle of Manchester is about to commence and it’s going to be interesting.

“It’s not just good for the Premier League but for the rest of the world to see how it unravels and there are two fantastic managers who have time now to get their ducks in a row ready for the start of the season. I think it’s going to be very, very interesting over the next few months.”

Last season was very contrasting for the two managers, with Guardiola winning the domestic double in his final season at Bayern Munich and Mourinho sacked by Chelsea in December.

Guardiola and City have also already been active in the transfer market, announcing the arrival of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

United are yet to make a signing but reports suggest that they are close to the signing of free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a player Mourinho worked with at Inter Milan.
