Steve Nicol slams disrespectful Conte after Mourinho row

Pundit Steve Nicol has labelled Antonio Conte ‘disrespectful’ after the Chelsea manager tried to get Stamford Bridge rocking as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

Much of the talk before Sunday’s game between Chelsea and Manchester United centred on the two men in the opposing dugout, and that only increased after Mourinho whispered in Conte’s ear as the players left the pitch.

Several reports suggest that the former Chelsea boss found it humiliating when Conte tried to get the fans to increase the noise in the stadium.

On ESPN, Nicol said: “When the opposition fans are shouting ‘ole’ then you should feel humiliated.

“I hate when an opposition coach does that [geeing up the fans], I genuinely hate it all the time. I understand at 1-0 down or 1-0 up when you’re trying to get the crowd on your side.

“But it’s like Mourinho said: ‘at 4-0, you don’t do that’. Well I’m sorry, but that’s disrespectful.”

Conte explained that despite his side winning, he could still hear the away support above the home fans and he simply wanted the Blues fans to outsing them.

The Red Devils are known for their great travelling support and the Italian stressed that he was just trying to get the same kind of response from his own supporters.

The former Juventus boss wouldn’t reveal what Mourinho said, merely explaining that a private conversation should stay that way.
