Usain Bolt: Van Nistelrooy is one of the main reasons I support United

Famed Olympic athlete Usain Bolt has revealed that Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of the main reasons why he supports Manchester United.

Bolt made history by completing the ‘triple triple’ – winning three gold medals at the last three Olympics – and on many occasions has voiced his desire to pull on the red, black and white of United.

The sprinter’s documentary ‘I Am Bolt’ is set for release on November 28 and he has been speaking about the things dearest to him ahead of that.

Bolt said, as reported by the Daily Mirror: “Outside of sprinting, I was such a big fan of Ruud van Nistelrooy – his goals were one of the big reasons why I supported Manchester United. I used to love to watch him play.”

Van Nistelrooy joined United from PSV Eindhoven for around £19m, a British record transfer fee back then, in 2001 and had several seasons of glory with the club.

He made 219 appearances for the Red Devils and scored a remarkable 150 goals, while surrounded by the likes of Paul Scholes and David Beckham.

Van Nistelrooy became an assistant to Guus Hiddink, who was manager of the Dutch national team, in 2014 and is now coaching PSV’s strikers.

He won one Premier League title, an FA Cup and a League Cup with United before leaving the club in the wake of a dispute with Sir Alex Ferguson.
