Vertonghen “likes” tweet mocking Manchester City following Spurs win

Jan Vertonghen took great pleasure in Tottenham‘s 2-0 win over Premier League title rivals Manchester City, ‘liking’ a tweet mocking City’s expensively assembled squad.

Spurs’ impressive first half display saw them race into a two-goal lead through an Aleksandar Kolarov own goal and Dele Alli’s strike at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Vertonghen and his team mates then produced a professional performance to shut out Pep Guardiola’s side, who had won all of their previous league games this season prior to the match.

After the game and full of confidence with Spurs cutting the gap at the top of the table to just a single point, Vertonghen checked out the reaction on Twitter.

The Dutch defender then liked a cheeky tweet pointing out the financial discrepancy between himself and centre-back partner Toby Alderweireld and City’s John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.

Stones joined the club in the summer for a reported £47.5m from Everton, while Otamendi arrived from Valencia last summer for £32m.

Vertonghen and Alderweireld were excellent throughout the win, making 24 clearances between them to keep City top goal scorer Sergio Aguero quiet.

Spurs are now the only unbeaten player left in the Premier League and look like genuine title contenders having overcome the league’s best side without stars like Harry Kane and Moussa Dembele.

And with an excellent win in the bag, Spurs fans’ delight only increased when they noticed Vertonghen’s online activity.
