Wenger – Walcott’s best position doesn’t matter

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that it does not matter where Theo Walcott plays for the club as long as the forward shows commitment to the role.

Walcott has been in terrific form so far this season for the Gunner, with the England international scoring three goals so far this season in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old backed up his domestic form with a dominant showing against Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday, scoring twice in the first half in a brilliant win for the north London club.

There has often been questions as to where Walcott is best deployed for Arsenal, with the attacker swapping between the flanks and as a striker.

But Wenger has insisted it does not matter where Walcott actually starts the game for the Gunners, so long as his No.14 shows he is committed during the contest.

The French manager used his winger’s performance against Chelsea as evidence of Walcott’s talent when he wants to play well.

Speaking before Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Basel, Wenger told BT Sport: “Theo Walcott’s best position is when he is committed like on Saturday against Chelsea, it does not matter where he plays.

“It is sometimes important to express the talent of a player. He can play on the flank or up front.”
