West Brom have rejected a bid from Manchester City for Jonny Evans, with Tony Pulis insisting the Baggies are under no pressure to sell.
According to Sky Sports, City had had an £18m bid rejected for the Baggies skipper and Albion manager Pulis confirmed the news on Friday morning.
“They’ve made an offer which we’ve turned down,” said Pulis, who revealed West Brom are still open to offers for Evans.
“Every player is for sale at the right price. It is absolutely crazy to say a team like West Brom won’t sell players if people weren’t going to put an enormous amount of money in front of you,” Pulis added.
“Firstly, we don’t want to sell him, we don’t need to sell him. So we’re not desperate to get the money. It would have to be a very, very good offer.
“Then we would have to sit down with Jonny and see what he thinks.”
Sky Sports claims the Northern Ireland international has been on Pep Guardiola’s radar for several weeks.
City have turned to Evans, with first-choice target Virgil van Dijk now increasingly likely to remain at Southampton.
Pulis insists Evans is happy to remain at The Hawthorns, although he admits the central defender could miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley with a hamstring problem.
“Jonny is fine, he understands the situation,” said Pulis. “Until all parties agree, then nothing will happen. He is happy here. He has just been made club captain and he wants to get on with his football.
“We were hoping he was going to be fit this weekend but obviously he’s just feeling it a bit.”
Pulis admits the ongoing transfer speculation is a distraction ahead of his side’s trip to Turf Moor and has called on the Premier League to close the transfer window before the start of the season in future years.
“I think what it shows and proves is that the transfer market should close before the season starts,” Pulis said.
