On Sunday, the Blancos clinched local bragging rights with a 2-1 victory at Wanda Metropolitano, thanks to first-half goals from Rodrygo and Fede Valverde.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are the reigning La Liga and Champions League champions, but Simeone believes they have evolved into a counter-attacking outfit similar to a similar Rojiblancos team led by Diego Costa.
Atletico’s team, led by Costa, achieved its own local and international success, and Simeone’s tactical methods becoming somewhat legendary back then.

What Did Simeone Say About Madrid?
Simeone told reporters after the derby defeat at the Wanda Metropolitano: “To see a team that defends low and goes on the counter-attack like that, it reminds me of the team we had with Costa, when they criticised us back then.
“They have a very good direct game, a quick transition from defence to attack, forcefulness, orderly defence, they play well, take advantage of their chances.
“It is a great job by the Madrid coach. They counter-attack with significant speed and have obvious talent.”
