AC Milan midfielder, Ismael Bennacer is set to be on the sidelines for six months after undergoing surgery on the knee injury he sustained against Inter.
The highly rated midfielder was forced off at half-time in the UEFA Champions League semi-final tie against their city rivals. The Algerian is now set to miss the second leg coming up later tonight.
In addition, the 25-year-old, who had surgery on a major knee injury that had damaged his cartilage lesion, would miss a staggering six months of play.
According to an official statement from AC Milan, the North African is expected to be out for “at least” six months. Which suggests that he may miss longer stretches of the forthcoming season.
“AC Milan announces that Ismaël Bennacer underwent surgery on his right knee in Lyon this morning,” the Rossoneri wrote in their official website.
“The repair of the cartilage lesion was successfully performed by Dr. Bertrand Sonnery Cottet in the presence of AC Milan’s club doctor, Dr. Stefano Mazzoni. The recovery time is estimated to be at least six months.”

This is a major setback for two reasons. Bennacer’s loss makes a comeback much more difficult. Even though Rafael Leao is back and is anticipated to play in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal match-up against the Nerazzurri.
Last season’s Serie A champions are trailing their eternal rivals by two goals after giving up two goals in the first 11 minutes. All thanks to goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
