Alejandro Garnacho Leaves Old Trafford On Crutches Following Ankle Injury

Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho has been pictured leaving Old Trafford on crutches after sustaining an ankle injury.

The 18-year-old came on as a late substitution against the Saints, but he was unable to finish due to an injury he sustained in a challenge with Kyle Walker-Peters.

Garnacho attempted to continue but was eventually replaced late in the game, and he proceeded straight down the tunnel to begin receiving treatment.

After the game, Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag revealed that the youngster had ‘twisted his ankle’.

“Yes, he had a bad tackle. His ankle was twisted. I didn’t take the risk and I took him off,” he told MUTV when questioned on the possible extent of the damage.

Garnacho was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches and in a protective boot, but it is unclear whether the teenager will now be sidelined.

The Argentina Under-20s international has been a fixture for Man United during the 2022-23 season, appearing on 29 occasions in all competitions and providing four goals and five assists.

The Red Devils had Casemiro sent off against Southampton, and the hosts were unable to score at Old Trafford, ultimately sharing the points with the strugglers.

Victor Lindelof was ill and unable to play for Man United on Sunday afternoon. Anthony Martial, Christian Eriksen, Marcel Sabitzer, and Donny van de Beek were also sidelined by injuries.

In the meanwhile, Casemiro will now face a four-game domestic ban, starting with next weekend’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Fulham, as a result of his dismissal for a hard challenge on Carlos Alcaraz.

Man United will not return to Premier League play until April 2nd, when they travel to Newcastle United.
