Arsenal Sweat Over Partey & Zinchenko Fitness Ahead Of North London Derby

Arsenal will assess the fitness of Thomas Partey and Oleksandr Zinchenko before making a decision on their availability for tomorrow’s North London derby against Tottenham.

The two, along with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney, were being evaluated at London Colney as a result of injury issues that developed over the international break.

Both Partey and Zinchenko have each contributed to the Gunners’ table-topping start to the season.

The loss of Partey, a crucial component of Mikel Arteta’s midfield, would be felt most painfully.

After missing the previous four League games due to a thigh injury, the Ghanaian made his comeback in the victory against Brentford just before the break.

However, he returned early from international duty due to a knee injury.

He withdrew from Ghana’s friendly match against Brazil last Friday after experiencing discomfort during the warm-up. Although, Ghana manager Otto Addo stated that the 29-year-old’s absence was precautionary.

He also missed the victory against Nicaragua after departing the camp to head back to London.

Zinchenko has been focusing on improving his fitness and didn’t join the Ukraine team after missing the Brentford game due to a calf injury.

Tierney, Arteta’s backup at left back, was taken out last weekend’s Nations League match between Scotland and the Republic of Ireland after taking a blow to the head. However, manager Steve Clarke maintained the injury was not serious.

Meanwhile, Emile Smith Rowe will not be returning soon after the Gunners announced yesterday that he had surgery.

The midfielder won’t be available until after the World Cup as he won’t be in training until at least December.
