Barcelona Set To Sign Marcus Thuram On Free Transfer In June

Positive reports on soon-to-be free agent Marcus Thuram have reportedly reached FC Barcelona.

The 25-year-old son of French great, Lillian, had a successful World Cup campaign in Qatar. Mainly operating as an impact substitute, he helped Les Bleus reach a second consecutive final where they were eventually topped on penalties by Lionel Messi’s Argentina following a stunning 3-3 draw through extra time.

Given that his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach is set to expire in June, striker Thuram has attracted interest from a number of top clubs around Europe that could potentially become his next destination.

One of these is FC Barcelona, who Mundo Deportivo reports have received good reports about the Parma-born frontman.

Marcus Thuram has already been on the Blaugrana’s books to an extent given that he played for the Barca Academy from 2006 to 2008 when his father played for the first team.

In recent times, however, Thuram has been scouted by the Catalans who have been watching him in action in the Bundesliga to see if his playing style could fit into that of head coach Xavi Hernadez.

The club like Thuram due to him being able to play two positions as either a striker or a wideman where Didier Deschamps often used him as a World Cup.

Thuram is enjoying a strong season in Germany, where he has netted 13 goals in 17 appearances as the top flight’s second top scorer while providing four assists.

The fact that he refuses to renew his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach makes it clear that he wishes to move on, and he is also now free to negotiate with whomever he wish.

With his current employers ready to cash in what they can in the current transfer window, though, there was the risk that a Chelsea in need could snatch Thuram away in the coming weeks.

However, on Monday evening, it was strongly reported that Chelsea have agreed a €11m ($11.8m) fee with Atletico Madrid to take Joao Felix on loan for the rest of the season with no obligation to buy the Portuguese.
