Carragher Claims Arsenal Must ‘Quieten’ Anfield To Win Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher has indicated that if Arsenal are to win their crucial encounter against Liverpool, they must keep the Anfield crowd quiet.

After Manchester City trounced Southampton 4-1 on Saturday. Mikel Arteta’s team currently leads the Premier League standings by five points. The Gunners’ next match is this afternoon’s trip to Anfield. When they hope to push their lead over City back to eight points.

The north London team hasn’t won a league game at Anfield since 2012. That was when Arteta was still a player, and has struggled there recently. The current match, according to Carragher, is Arsenal’s biggest game since their heyday under Arsene Wenger as head coach.

The former Liverpool and England defender continued. Saying that if the Gunners want to leave Merseyside with a victory, they must calm down the Anfield atmosphere.

Carragher mentioned that Arteta’s touchline antics could thrill the Anfield crowd.

“Maybe in the back of his head, he will be thinking with his staff and his players on the pitch, ‘Don’t bring the crowd into play’, because if this is just a football game Arsenal win this, certainly on the form of this season.

“The only reason Liverpool fans think they can win this is because it’s at Anfield, it’s a tight pitch, they can create some atmosphere on the terraces.

“Arsenal’s player and staff need to make sure they don’t inflame that by doing a silly tackle or Arteta getting involved with the officials.

“That’s got to be a big part of Arteta’s team talk – how they can quieten the crowd,”Carragher told the Essential Football Podcast, via Sky Sports
