Dean Smith Becomes New Leicester City Manager

Leicester City have appointed Dean Smith as the head-coach until the end of the season.

The 52-year-old takes over from Brendan Rodgers, who left Leicester in March with the team in danger of being relegated. Smith previously managed Aston Villa and Norwich City.

“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to lead the team during these final weeks of the season,” Smith said in a statement on Leicester’s official website.

“The challenge in front of us is clear, but it’s one myself and my coaching team have experienced before and, with the quality in this squad and the number of games remaining, it’s very much achievable.”

Craig Shakespeare, who was a member of the team that led Leicester to the 2015–16 Premier League title and later became the club’s manager. And former Chelsea captain John Terry will join Smith as his assistant. Both were his right-hand men during his days at Aston Villa.

Smith will be aiming to repeat the Villa team’s one-point escape from relegation in 2019–20. Which came about thanks to eight points from the final four games.

With only five points out of a possible 45 since Boxing Day. Leicester have won only one point in their past eight games, a 1-1 draw at Brentford.

On Saturday, Smith will have a challenging management debut against second-placed Manchester City. The Cityzens  have scored the most goals in the division with 75 this  season.

The games that follow, however, might very well determine Leicester’s fate. This is because they play Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United, and Everton. Three other teams that are in danger of being relegated.
