EPL: Chelsea Players ‘Stunned By Graham Potter Sacking’

Chelsea players have reportedly been left ‘stunned’ by the club’s decision to part ways with Graham Potter.

Chelsea enjoyed a four-match unbeaten run into Saturday’s Premier League matchup against Aston Villa, winning three of those matches and drawing 2-2 with Everton in the match before the international break.

However, following a 2-0 loss to the West Midlands team, the Blues announced on Sunday evening that they had parted ways with the Englishman after only 31 games in command.

Potter leaves with only 12 victories, half of which came in the first nine games of his reign, and 11 defeats in all competitions.

Although Chelsea’s fall to 11th in the Premier League table, a decision of this magnitude was not expected ahead of Tuesday’s game against Liverpool and the upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

As a result, according to The Telegraph, senior players learned of Potter’s departure when it was revealed via the club’s official media channels.

According to the report, the squad was “stunned” by the development, prompting many of them to call their representatives.

Sports directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley allegedly spearheaded the decision to sack Potter, which was supported by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

Chelsea announced in an official announcement that Bruno Saltor, a member of the coaching staff, will be appointed interim manager.

As things stand, the length of Bruno’s contract is unknown, with suspicion growing that Chelsea will seek to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, while Chelsea reportedly has no immediate replacement lined up for Potter, Nagelsmann has emerged as the clear frontrunner to make the move in the next days or weeks.
