Germany And Hamburg Hero Uwe Seeler Dies Aged 85

Germany football Hero, Uwe Seeler, passed away at age 85. Between 1952 and 1973,Uwe Seeler had a successful 21-year career during which he was devoted to just one club, Hamburg.

The former Hamburg striker scored 445 goals in 519 games for the club and was equally successful for the German national side.

Uwe Seeler played in four World Cups and scored 43 goals in 72 games for West Germany, including the 1966 final loss to England (4-2) as his nation’s captain.

He is largely recognized as one of Germany’s finest players, and he is still Hamburg’s all-time Bundesliga top scorer with 137 goals.

Uwe Seeler leaves behind his wife Ilka, with whom he had three daughters. Levin Oztunali, his grandson, presently plays for Union Berlin in Germany’s top division.

Oliver Kahn, the CEO of Bayern Munich, described Seeler’s demise as a “painful loss for the entire football family” before adding: “When you think of German football and greatest players, you think of Uwe Seeler.”

The German Women’s National Team also paid tribute to Uwe Seeler by donning black armbands during their 2-0 quarter-final win against Austria at Euro 2022.
