Liverpool In Contact With Bayern For Benjamin Pavard

Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Bayern Munich over the signing of Benjamin Pavard ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds are early adopters this summer, finalizing a deal for Alexis MacAllister very early. Shortly after, they launched the pursuit for another midfielder. However, Jurgen Klopp still considers defensive cover to be a top priority and would like to bolster his backline.

Despite winning the Bundesliga, Bayern have had a difficult season and their future looks questionable. The Bavarians may well undergo a significant squad revamp. According to The Athletic, the power struggle behind the scenes will offer manager Thomas Tuchel more freedom to reshape his team without the assistance of a director of football.

Benjamin Pavard is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar, according to Christian Falk of SportBILD, who writes for CaughtOffside. The Frenchman is reportedly looking for a fresh start after four years with the German champions.

“His agents are already talking to other clubs,” Falk said. “Among them, Liverpool is now a hot candidate.”

As Liverpool looks to evolve Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role, Pavard could make a lot of sense. With another French player signed from the Bundesliga, Ibrahima Konate, filling his void defensively. The England international has recently been sliding into the midfield role.

Pavard would have an edge against Konate as a right-sided center-back. Because he has experience playing that position and would presumably be stronger at covering. He might also challenge Alexander-Arnold for the spot.

Pavard is valued at €35 million by Transfermarkt.
