Man United Target Reveals Why He Didn’t Join The Red Devils

Despite being at the center of a drawn-out transfer saga in the summer, Man United summer target, Frenkie de Jong, reveals he never intended to leave Barcelona.

All summer long, Manchester United showed a lot of interest in signing De Jong. At a point, rivals Chelsea also entered the picture for the Dutchman.

Meanwhile, in an effort to alleviate their financial problems, Barcelona were inclined to sell, and even reached an agreement with United.

The midfielder nevertheless chose to stay at Camp Nou, having previously stated his desire to do so. However, the 25-year-old has since found his game time limited.

The Dutchman has only started four of Barca’s eight games this season in all competitions, and it’s apparent that he’s frustrated about it.

Why Didn’t De Jong Join Man United?

De Jong disclosed when and why he made the decision to remain in Barcelona while on international duty with the Netherlands.

“I had already decided in May that I wanted to stay. So I was very calm myself. I now feel welcome at the club. Nothing has ever changed with my teammates,” he said.

In a press conference, he explained further about his lack of consistent minutes.

“I didn’t start against Bayern in the Champions League. You want to play important games. When I play less, I do notice it.

“Not really in terms of the technical aspect because you still know how to play football, but more so in the physical aspect.”

De Jong is still an important player for his country even though he may not be starting as much for his club. He will be looking to make an impact in Nations League matches against Poland and Belgium.
