Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has agreed a new two-year deal committing him to the club until 2025.
The Spaniard has been a huge success since taking over at the Etihad in 2016, although his current contract was set to expire at the end of the season. This fueled speculation that Guardiola was ready to leave City, despite his insistence in previous months that he was happy to stay.
However, Guardiola has finally ended all doubts by committing his future to the defending Premier League champions through the summer of 2025.
According to a new report from The Athletic, the new contract is originally a one-year deal with an option for both sides to extend the agreement for an additional 12 months.
The 51-year-six-year old’s stay at the Etihad is his longest at a club. And he intimated earlier this month that he was already planning to stay in Manchester beyond the conclusion of the season.

“[Would I] stay in another place for seven years? No, I don’t think so. It is difficult to find what I have here as a manager,” Guardiola admitted. “To be a manager for a long time you need to be so supported. The results help a lot, that is undeniable. In this world they sack you, they fire you, we know that.
“But, at big clubs, part of the success of the manager is the chairman, the sporting director especially, the CEOs and all the people here. It goes to the media, fans and players. There is stability. This is why I think only in few clubs this can happen.”
