Salah: Despite Liverpool’s Dismal Start To The Season, We Can Still Compete With City

Despite just taking two points from their first two games, Mohamed Salah is adamant that Liverpool can still challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

After fighting back from behind in their first two games against Fulham and Crystal Palace, the Reds have had a tough start to the season.

In their opening match against Fulham, Salah assisted and scored, but he was unable to contribute as Palace defeated them at Anfield.

Due to an early-season injury issue, Liverpool were without a number of first team players for their match against Patrick Vieira’s club.

New signing, Darwin Nunez, didn’t help matters with his antics by getting in trouble for trying to headbutt Joachim Anderson.

What Did Salah Say?

The Liverpool winger, who recently signed a new contract with the Club, claimed that despite their sluggish start to the season, he and his colleagues could still compete with Manchester City.

“We didn’t start the way we want but I think it is part of the game, we have to react,” he stated to Sky Sports.

“We lost four points in the first two games but it can happen.

“I think everybody is excited about the season, everybody wants to show our football again so we just need to carry on, we can’t change the past so we just focus on the next game.”

Speaking about the possibility of falling seven points behind Manchester City should results not go their way, Salah said: “It could be a little bit of pressure, seven points behind City, but I think it is too early to think about that.”

On August 22, Salah and Liverpool will face Manchester United at Old Trafford. Liverpool hopes to repeat its 5-0 victory from the previous season in this match to get their season off to a strong start.

Following that, they host Bournemouth before going to Newcastle.
