‘Something I am Extremely Proud Of’ – Kane On Breaking Rooney’s Record

Tottenham Hotspur star striker, Harry Kane has expressed his joy at surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record for Premier League goals scored.

Kane’s first-half header against Crystal Palace was his 209th in the Premier League. Breaking Rooney’s previous mark of 208 set while playing for Manchester United and Everton. With his tenth header of the season, the England captain also broke the record for most headers scored in a single season.

After the game, a thrilled Kane spoke with Sky Sports about Rooney and his legacy: “Amazing, you know Wayne is one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen and this country has ever seen so to go ahead of him is something I am extremely proud of,” he explained.

“As I always say, I am looking forward to scoring some more goals and trying to climb that list.”

United supporters will be hoping that Kane can surpass Newcastle legend Alan Shearer at Old Trafford. As he is currently 51 goals behind the all-time Premier League goalscoring leader.

According to MEN Sport, Erik ten Hag has made Kane his top priority for a summer transfer as he looks to strengthen his front line. Daniel Levy, the chairman of Spurs, has the history of being reluctant to move Harry Kane throughout prior transfer windows. Which has United on edge.

In case the Kane strategy fails, the Red Devils have compiled a shortlist of potential replacements. Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt forward  Randal Kolo Muani are included in the list.
