Tottenham Challenge Liverpool To Signing Of €30m Defender Micky Van De Ven

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are aiming to derail Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven this summer.

Tottenham are looking to improve their defensive options following the departure of Clement Lenglet, who has returned to Barcelona following his loan stay.

As new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou prepares to revamp his team, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez, and Eric Dier have all been linked with moves away from White Hart Lane this summer.

Van de Ven has emerged as a major target, with Fabrizio Romano recently stating that Tottenham had begun conversations with the player’s agency to consider a summer move to North London.

However, it looks Tottenham will have heavy competition, as Football Insider reports that Liverpool has joined Tottenham in the race to capture van de Ven and might now hijack their projected move for the defender.

According to the source, Jurgen Klopp is looking for a new defender and is looking for a versatile player who can play in a traditional back four or a back three to allow Trent Alexander Arnold to play in his new midfield role.

Van de Ven is already on Klopp’s radar because he fits the profile of the player the German manager is searching for, and Football Insider claims that Liverpool is already ‘building the foundation’ for a defensive acquisition this summer.

Liverpool and Tottenham might potentially compete for Van de Ven’s signature this summer, with the 22-year-old being an enticing addition to whichever club wins the battle.

The Netherlands international is drawing interest after a strong season for Wolfsburg, which finished seventh in the Bundesliga. He was a constant for The Wolves last season, making 36 games, scoring once and assisting once in all competitions.
