Watch: Messi Bids Suarez Good luck Following His Return To Nacional

Lionel Messi has wished former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez success on his return to Nacional, his boyhood club. Suarez returned to the Uruguayan team this summer on a free transfer.

Suarez was linked with a move to MLS after leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of last season, but he chose to return to the club where his career began 16 years ago.

The attacker is hoping to improve his chances of making the Uruguay squad for the 2022 World Cup in November, and his former teammate has sent him his best wishes.

What Did Messi Have To Say About Suarez?

“You are there. I want to send you a big hug and wish you all the best in this stage,”  Messi said in a video posted on Twitter by Nacional.

“I know how important it is to be there, to return to your home, to return to live in your country after so long, to prepare for the World Cup.

“I wish you the best.”

Why Has Suarez Returned To Nacional?

The 35-year-old said it was “impossible” to turn down Nacional’s offer to return to his home country.

Using the hashtag #SuarezANacional, the club’s fans started a campaign to get their youth academy product back by sharing videos and comments on social media asking for his return.

Thousands of fans also wore masks of his face during the club’s latest match against Cerrito.

The campaign was successful in encouraging him to rejoin, as he stated: “I just want to thank you for all the affection me and my family have received in the last few days, it’s been amazing.”
